Our business is built on a partnership between Jacobo Bacariza, a driven entrepreneur with a background in operations and product development, and Pablo Cortez, owner of COWGUYS.SHOP, a natural skincare brand that uses beef tallow as its core ingredient. Pablo first started using tallow to create nourishing balms, but he quickly realized the excess trim fat from his ranch-sourced beef was being discarded. In an effort to repurpose beef tallow he began transforming it into clean-burning, handcrafted candles.
With Pablo’s deep connection to ranching and raw ingredients, and Jacobo’s expertise in scaling brands, optimizing production, and building meaningful customer experiences, Tallowwick was born. Together, they’ve created a brand that honors the land, supports local agriculture, and delivers high-quality, sustainable candles made with intention.
Tallowwick is proudly rooted in College Station, Texas, just down the road from Texas A&M University, one of the nation’s leading agricultural research institutions. Our team—first connected through shared work in ranching and natural product development—draws daily inspiration from this rich, land-based community. 📋The Science
Beef tallow is a natural, renewable wax that has been used for centuries in traditional candle-making. Rich in saturated and monounsaturated fats, tallow burns cleanly and slowly, producing a stable, even flame with minimal soot. Unlike synthetic waxes or heavily processed soy, tallow is biodegradable, non-toxic, and free from petroleum byproducts. It’s a byproduct of ethical ranching practices, giving purpose to what is often discarded and turning it into something useful and beautiful. Many store-bought candles are made with paraffin wax, a petroleum byproduct that releases harmful compounds like benzene and toluene into the air when burned—both of which are known to affect indoor air quality and long-term health. In addition, synthetic dyes, chemical stabilizers, and artificial fragrance blends often contain phthalates and other endocrine-disrupting ingredients. These additives may enhance color or scent, but they come at the cost of cleaner air and peace of mind.
At Tallowwick, we take a different approach. We use beef tallow, a renewable and biodegradable fat, paired with a touch of beeswax and phthalate-free fragrance oils, to create candles that are safe, stable, and clean-burning. Our wood wicks produce a soft, cozy crackle without the carbon buildup and soot of cotton wicks, and we never rely on paraffin, synthetic colorants, or hidden chemical additives.
And unlike many brands that buy wax in bulk with no connection to its origin, we know exactly where our tallow comes from. While not all of our tallow comes from our own cattle, our experience in ranching and rendering gives us deep insight into sourcing responsibly and crafting with integrity.

Our candles are some of the purest and most thoughtfully crafted on the market because we don’t cut corners—or quality. We use beef fat traditionally valued for its purity and clean burn. While many candle makers rely on pre-processed wax blends filled with stabilizers, we start with raw, locally sourced beef and render it ourselves using a slow, all-natural method.
Our tallow is gently refined in double boilers at controlled temperatures, ensuring it remains clean, stable, and free of impurities—without harsh chemicals or high-heat processing. We take the time to remove any residual odor naturally, preserving the integrity of the fat while allowing our fragrance oils to shine.
